Another photographer who I intend to study is Edward Honaker. His photographs focus heavily on modern issues in society to do with emotions and mental illnesses. Similarly to this photographer, I would like to create a similar message but in terms of linking digital identities (through social media and the effects of technology on people) and portray how you may see someone online yet you only perceive them how you initially see them, you don't know who they truly are.
Honaker was diagnosed with depression and anxiety, and his coping mechanism for this was through photography, capturing his personal experience; his photographs all use a monotone aesthetic to adhere to the intense, depressing emotions experienced. For example, many of these bleak thoughts that he experienced may've seemed to almost drain any colour, possibly representing his loss of happiness, from his life which may be why Honaker decided to only use black and white imagery to represent his experience.
In addition to this, Honaker's work is edited in a way that further helps to express his experience. For example, he often uses Photoshop to digitally manipulate his photographs by using the Liquefy tool to drag over areas of the model's face, almost creating a distortion effect over the top to represent how the emotions he has experienced drastically distorted how he felt and how his emotions often were so intense that they affected him even physically. I would love to experiment with similar photoshop techniques for my photography as well to help convey this message and possibly create a physical experiment too, such as painting over the top of the image to distort specific areas.
